This TinyShield makes it incredibly easy to add audio support to your TinyDuino projects. It has an onboard DAC, filter and amplifier for great sound quality. It can play any size uncompressed 22kHz, 16bit mono Wave files (.wav) directly off a microSD card (aTinyShield microSD Adapteris also required for this).

The audio output is mono on both the L and R channels, and uses a standard 3.5mm headphone jack connector and an onboard potentiometer can be used to control the volume. This TinyShield is completely compatible with the Arduino waveHC Library from Adafruit for playing wave files from a microSD card.

TinyShield Real Time Clock (RTC)

This TinyShield lets you add a battery-backed real-time clock (RTC) to your TinyDuino projects. This lets your project keep accurate time even through the TinyDuino being reprogrammed or power losses. It is based around the Maxim DS1339 RTC and supports counting in seconds, minutes, hours, days, date, month and year with leap-year compensation (valid up to 2100).

The RTC has two time-of-day alarms that can be set to wake up the main TinyDuino processor from sleep (very useful in long term data logging applications) and will automatically switch to using the backup battery upon power loss. The backup battery is a rechargeable Lithium coin cell which is soldered onto the TinyShield and will keep the RTC time for 2.5 years before being recharged. Trickle charging of the backup battery can be enabled using a software command.

The TinyCircuits TinyDuino is an Arduino compatible board in an ultra compact package. Imagine the possibilities of having the full power of an Arduino Uno in a size less than a quarter! The TinyDuino processor board is roughly equivalent to the Arduino Uno board – same processor, same signals brought out to a shield connector. In fact, most Arduino sketches will work as is without any changes.

With Lithium Battery Support - has an on-board Lithium battery charger that will charge the battery when attached to USB, via a micro JST SH connector

Includes:

  • Atmega328P processor (same as is used on the Arduino Uno)
  • Reset switch
  • Status LED
  • 8MHz ceramic resonator
  • Optional battery connector for CR1612-CR1632 coin cell batteries
  • External power supported with a 0.1″ power connection holes
  • Supports automatic switching between +5V and VBATT (if +5V is present, it will be used instead of the battery)

Note: To program this board, you need to use the TinyShield USB & ICP

Note: This board does not include a voltage regulator – do not supply more than +5.5V to VBATT or the +5V signal or you will permanently damage the board and ruin your day.

Note: A TinyDuino Processor Board with Battery holder connector is available

The TinyShield USB & ICP add USB support for the TinyDuino via a micro-USB connector and uses the very popular FTDI USB to Serial converter IC (as used on most standard Arduino models). Using this board allows you to download new sketches via the Arduino IDE to your TinyDuino, and also allows you to add USB communication capabilities to your projects. This board supports RX and TX status LEDs so you can visualize the serial traffic to and from your TinyDuino.

This board also uses the DTR line from the FTDI IC to support the auto-reset function when a new sketch is downloaded to the processor – eliminating the need for you to hit the reset button to reprogram your TinyDuino.

A In-Circuit programming (ICP) 6-pin connection is also available on this board (the header is not included by default), which can be used to program the Atmel microcontroller on the TinyDuino using an external programmer. The size and pinout of this connector is the new Atmel standard, and this can be used directly with newer external programmers like the Atmel JTAGICE 3.

This proto board brings all of the TinyShield signals out to a point that you can solder to. All of the signals are marked and are spaced with 0.1″ spacing (same spacing as on the standard Arduino Uno), so a standard 0.1″ header can be used if desired.

This proto board can be ordered with or without a top stackable connector. By default, a top connector is not needed since the standard method is to use this proto board as the top board in a TinyDuino stack which allows the easiest access to the signals. However when this board is ordered with the top stackable connector, the proto board can be located in an inner layer of the TinyDuino stack which is useful for some projects.

Note: This TinyShield replaces all of the older style Proto1, Proto2 and Proto3 boards which have been discontinued.

TinyShield OLED - TinyScreen

TinyScreen is a beautiful color OLED display for your TinyDuino system. Create video games, a video player, or your own smart watch using this Tiny OLED screen! The screen is 0.96" diagonal with a resolution of 96x64 RGB pixels, each with 16-bit color. Since this is an OLED, there is no backlight needed and the screen is very bright with excellent colors. Four buttons are located along the side of the screen to allow for user input - like for playing games or creating menus for your projects (like is done on the TinyScreen Smartwatch project). The screen has a built in IO expander over I2C for control signals and button control, which eliminates using extra pins on the TinyDuino for this.

The screen uses an SSD1331 driver for the OLED display, and we have a highly optimized and easy to use library for this which supports both the OLED screen and the buttons on the board, even allowing for 20FPS+ video playback from a microSD with the TinyDuino. It's also very easy to create your own projects to display text and graphics, or create your own tiny games.

The TinyScreen is also available with an alternative device address, which allows two TinyScreens to be used on the same TinyDuino stack when used with a Ribbon Cable Extender
