A vintage small oval brass bound snuff bottle decorated, to the front and back, with what we believe to be pieces of shell, mainly in blues and pinks, inset into some form of shellac.
The stopper is a screw top, pierced through at the top so that a loop and chain can be inserted. The stopper has an integral wand, which we believe is to help prevent the snuff from clumping.
The bottle has been lightly cleaned only in order to retain what patina there is to the brass but might benefit from further more expert cleaning.
The bottle measures just over 2in from the top of the stopper to the base and about 1.125in across at its widest. The main body of the bottle measures just under 0.5in deep (excluding the slightly domed shell decorated front and back). Exact age unknown but probably dates from first part of last century.
