A pair of vintage or antique ornate gothic design electroplated cutlery rests with bar supported by triangular pierced metal terminals in a sort of embellished fleur de lys style. There is a makers mark, JG within a shield, and this might be the mark for John Gough (late nineteenth century) but we are not certain. In addition to the makers mark, the letters EP are also impressed (representing electroplated metal).
The rests have been cleaned, but might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. There are some slight surface scratching commensurate with age and use. In addition, there are a few small dinks and there is some loss to the plating here and there (including on one of the integral feet on which the rests stand – we have photographed this one from which you will see that the quality of plate is such that the losses here and there seem to make very little difference to the overall appearance of the cutlery rests). One side of the supports is bent slightly further inwards that the others, but the rests are nevertheless stable when placed on a flat surface.
The rests each measure just under 3in across from end to end, and the bar stands approximately 0.75in high. Exact age unknown but believed to date from the first part to middle of last century. Together the cutlery rests weigh just under 90g.
