THE CARTERS COLLECTABLES UK BACKGROUND & ETHOS
CartersCollectablesUK comprises Steve and Jane Carter and we are based on the Isle of Wight, with our Westie, Lily (who adopted us from puppydom in 2015 after our beloved Sadie, also a Westie, left us for Rainbow Bridge). Jane became disabled in 1994 after an accident which resulted in a spinal injury but despite this, both Jane and Steve had busy and successful professional lives whilst working in London in law, personnel, health and safety, career management and latterly project management.
In 2001, a serious illness forced Jane to reconsider her priorities, expand her interest in antiques, and vintage and collectable items, and we moved to the Isle of Wight in 2004. We collect for ourselves and have a wide range of interests in antiques which includes ceramics, wood, vintage and antique jewellery, metalwork. Jane particularly collects Asian and Oriental items and Steve, Moorcroft and Russian ornaments. We now sell on eBay, at some local Fairs (although Jane's disability limits these), and online. We are currently experimenting with alternatives to ebay (such as Etsy, eBid, etc). We set up this website in 2013 and we have also joined Twitter (@carterscollecta@) and Pinterest, Facebook, Google and other social media sites.
We have found the antiques business involves a huge learning curve and it is immensely enjoyable. Although more than thousands items have passed through our hands since we started in the business, we are not experts and we do not claim to be. However, we do try to be as accurate as we can in our descriptions both on eBay, on this website and elsewhere. We try to keep our eBay listings at around 200 to 250 items on a rolling basis. With regards to the Carters Collectables website, this currently stands at just under 500, and we will continue to add to the website at a greater rate than ebay and other selling platforms. This website shows items that may be on other selling platforms, and also items which are only available via the website. We also try to add new items here on a regular basis so do have a look at the Carters Collectables website to get the full range
In determining datelining for our items, we apply the following strictures:
Items from now up to 20 years old, contemporary
Items 20 to up to 40 years old, retro
Items 40 to up to 100 years old, vintage
Items 100 years old or more, antique.
We find that this is a good guide and many people within the antiques and collectables industry seem to adhere to this standard.
In our buying activities, we have certain expectations – prompt delivery, reasonable packaging charges, item as described.
As a seller, we find the experience on eBay and other venues very enjoyable – like everything else it has its ups and downs – bad buyers (thankfully very few), technical problems, slow sales, and the occasional run ins, but it all pans out.
We are happy to consider all REASONABLE offers on our items.
Once invoiced, we would expect to receive payment as soon as possible or at the most within 2 days of invoicing or otherwise to be contacted by the buyer to make alternative arrangements for payment. If no payment (nor contact) is made within the 2 day period, then we reserve the right to relist the item(s) ordered.
We try to post out promptly – if we receive cleared payment by 7.00am, we usually try to ship out the same day or in any event within 3 working days or earlier.
We are happy to combine shipping where we can
We have a returns policy
