Militant, the Socialist Party & the CWI

This is the first real account of Militant, its ideas, organisation and the role of figures associated with it. Five previous books have been written about Militant. But this is the only one which gives an authentic account of how Militant played such a prominent role in Liverpool in the 1980's and the successful battle to defeat the Poll Tax.

In this third book on the history of the work of the Socialist Party, Peter Taaffe outlines a Marxist and Trotskyist analysis of developments in the global capitalist system, including the political events that flow from them, from the financial crash of 2007-08 through to 2019. 
At the same time, numerous examples of successful trade union and political class battles bring to life, not only the kind of organisation and audacity that can win against the bosses now, but also helps workers to hone the kind of methods and organisation that can bring about socialist change.

Peter Taaffe and Tony Mulhearn's book depicting the struggle of the Militant-led Liverpool City Council 1983-7 against the Thatcher governments cuts, which draws out numeorus lessons for future struggles.

In 2018-19, a dispute broke out over exactly these questions within the Committee for a Workers’ International (CWI), the world socialist organisation which includes the Socialist Party in England and Wales.

‘In Defence of Trotskyism’ is a new book bringing together many of the key documents produced to defend a working-class, Trotskyist CWI; a process which culminated in the CWI’s re-foundation.
